No quest for extra artifact traits unlock
I have unlocked the extra traits on multiple weapons on a couple of different characters now but can not do so on my Hunter. I have already unlocked the extra traits on the weapon for the Beastmaster spec and have filled all the traits on the Marksman spec but I am not being given the quest to unlock the traits for that weapon.

That's what's happening on my hunter. The council just stands there looking at me like I'm mad.

One of the biggest challenges to questing is trying to figure out where you should be, and sometimes where you have been.

With Legion our Developers tried to make sure that any important questlines, once you qualified for them, stood out. So often, when you aren't certain where you need to go you can look at your map for an exclamation point indicating where you should go.

In this case, Akarra, the council might be looking at you funny because you already started the Marksmen questline to unlock the additional traits. If you look at the Broken Shore you should see an exclamation point indicating that you have the quest "Runes of Rending" waiting for you.

If you are lost on a questline I'd recommend checking various resources like Wowhead or Icy-veins, etc... they have some quest trackers that should help you determine what you may be missing. You can also look up the questline itself and look at your map to see if there is an exclamation point waiting for you to notice it. :)

Good luck.

Thank you for clueing me in, but one question why does this quest not show in my quest journal? Shouldn't I have a sub section labeled "Artifact" with Runes of Rending listed under it?

Yes, but you'd need to have picked up the quest for it to show in your questlog. You don't have that quest yet. :)

As I said, the Devs worked to show important quests on the map so that in case you were lost or weren't sure where to go or what to do, you could look at your map, in various zones, and search out those marks. Going there will usually give you a quest for an important chain that you still need to do.

If someone like me starts that quest and does the parts in Dalaran then has to log and doesn't come back to that character in a while there is nothing left in their journal pointing them in the right direction.

That's the thing, Akarra, you should have had the next quest. I'm not sure why it wasn't picked up at the time but the previous quest "Where it's Thinnest" leads directly to Karam Magespear. That is who would have had to talk to in order to turn in the quest.

Something may have happened that caused you to leave before picking it up. Which is why the system is designed to show the exclamation point so that you should be able to find your way back.

Understand, the goal isn't to have guides set up to walk players through every aspect of questing throughout the land. Part of playing the game is trying to figure out where you need to be and what you need to do. It is set up though to help at times so that if you are completely lost, you don't remember what you did last on your character or you are otherwise unsure where to go next that you can hopefully figure it out by simply looking at your map.

there was nothing telling me that was the quest I was looking for.

No, but the exclamation was there to tell you that there was a quest there that was important. You can venture to the area and pick it up and see where it leads you or if you want you can look it up on other sites that catalog that kind of information, like Icy-veins, wowhead, etc...

In either case, any frustration you may have experienced is excellent feedback for our Dev team and I'd recommend posting in the Quest discussion forum or submit your feedback through the Submit a suggestion option in the help menu in-game. :)

Good luck unlocking your Artifact Traits!
